FOR THE ATTENTION OF PARENTS WITH A CHILD
STARTING PRIMARY SCHOOL

Preparing for school is a wonderful experience, shopping for school clothes, books, getting the real school bag, etc. Your child will be looking forward to making new friends and playing in the big school playground, all new experiences.
Please don’t forget your child’s vaccinations. It is so important that your child is protected from germs that can enter through cuts and grazes and from viruses that spread so easily from person to person such as Measles. The Routine immunisations due at age 4 – 5 years include MMR vaccine (protection against Measles, Mumps & Rubella) and the 4in1 vaccine (protection against Tetanus, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough and Polio infections)
Children born outside Ireland may not have had all the recommended immunisations as per the Irish Schedule eg. Meningitis C/ MMR.
If you are unsure whether your child is fully protected, please contact your GP, or send a photocopy of your child’s vaccination records to the above address with your contact details, (your current address and telephone number). We will gladly advise you on any immunisations necessary for your child.
It is never too late to catch up on missed vaccinations if your child has not completed the schedule. However, every week without protection leaves your child at risk of a vaccine preventable disease.
For further advice on all vaccinations, please contact your family doctor or please do not hesitate to contact the Immunisation Office at the above number.

Every good wish and the best of health to you and your child over the coming years.
